Obituary for Gavin Thomas Deans

Gavin Thomas Deans
DEANS, Gavin Thomas
1959 – 2015

Gavin Deans, 55 passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 29, 2015, in Red Deer, Alberta, after a seven year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gavin is preceded in death by his father, Iain Deans. Gavin is survived by his mother, Kathleen Deans, his two daughters, Sasha and Tahliah Deans, and the mother of his children, Caryl Moore. Gavin was an only child, born in Dumfries, Scotland and grew up amongst the beauty of the Lake District, Cumbria, England. Gavin had a love for sports, especially soccer and golf. He also had a passion for cars. Gavin studied medicine, with a concentration on physiotherapy at the University of Leeds, in England. He emigrated to Canada in 1985, after which he opened his own practice, Westwood Physiotherapy Ltd. Gavin had a passion for helping people, which was clear to all of those around him. Gavin’s specialty was that of sports injuries, ranging from local athletes, Red Deer Rebels players, as well as NHL and Olympic athletes. Gavin had an amazing mind and he put his heart and soul into the care of his patients. He found so much joy in travelling and spending time with his family, who meant the absolute world to him. Gavin was taken away far too soon; however, in the short amount of time he was with us, he lived life to the fullest and touched many hearts. His accomplishments and strength of character will forever live on. Gavin was loved ever so deeply and will be greatly missed. “Where a beautiful soul has travelled, beautiful memories remain forever.” As per Gavin’s request, there will be a private service. Memorial donations in Gavin’s memory would be greatly appreciated, and can be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, 4811 – 48 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 3T2. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Sonya Henderson, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
