Obituary for Francis Jean "Jean" Warneke
Francis Jean Warneke (Bertagnolli )
(July 27,1931- December 28,2017)
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Jean. She was born July 27, 1931 to Roy and Annie Addy at home in Alhambra. Jean passed away peacefully, at the Rocky Mountain House hospital on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the age of 86 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children; Becky (Dale), Joe (Carol), Clark (Colleen), Karen (Dave), Mark (Annie), stepson Lorne Warneke, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; Roy and Annie Addy, her first husband of nearly 30 years, Donald Bertagnolli, her brothers Arran and Evan Addy, her sister Louisa Bertagnolli, her second husband of 25 years, John Warneke and her sister by choice, Tove Della Costa.
Jean completed her grade 12 in Rocky Mountain House and worked at the telephone office. The following year, her mother bought the telephone office and Jean proceeded to teach her mother and sister how to operate it. She then began working at the weather office as well as helping with the switch board. After two years of working at the weather office, Jean went to work at the Treasury Branch until she married Don Bertagnolli in 1955. She embraced her new career as a farm wife and helped Don with the haying and combining. Jean was an avid gardener, an amazing cook and a kind and caring friend and neighbor. Jean also volunteered at the Next to New when her mother, Annie Addy started this non-profit business that addressed the need for a place to buy gently used clothing in Rocky Mountain House. After Don passed away, Jean continued to live on the farm and started travelling around the world.
In 1991, she married John Warneke and moved to Condor. She continued to travel the world with John. They moved to Rocky in 2008 and when John passed away, Jean moved to the Westview Lodge.
Jean’s greatest accomplishment, as far as she was concerned, was her family. Family was so very important to her, and every time they all got together, she would tell them how happy she was that, “Her kids all got along!” Kudos to her for being such an excellent role model!
A Memorial Service will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5108 50 street, Rocky Mountain House, AB on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
