I have so many memories but one of my earliest memories that has stuck by me all these years goes back to about grade 2 or 3.
We were outside on the playground at recess and one boy was being picked on and teased. Brian was the first one to go and in his quiet way tell these kids that it was not OK to do that. And they listened.
This is how I remembered all through school ... quiet, gentle, kind.
PS - Brian's one memory of me was me throwing a dirt/mud lump at him because he wouldn't get off my raft. I guess the mud landed on his face/eye ... I didn't have that quiet decorum that Brian had ...
I will miss my childhood friend ...
