Obituary for Jessie Joy Lund (Teare)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Jessie Joy Lund at her cabin at Gull Lake, Alberta on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Jessie was born at Lacombe, Alberta on December 26, 1928, where she grew up. She was united in marriage to Gordon Lund in July 1950. They moved to Edmonton in 1951, then to Camrose, and finally settled in Red Deer in 1957. Jessie loved anything to do with sports. She participated for many years in The Red Deer Curling and Bowling Leagues. When she wasn’t active herself, she could be seen sitting in the stands supporting her sons, or grandchildren. Jessie was extremely giving in every way. She volunteered for many years at Meals on Wheels and at Martha’s Village Kitchen in Indio. She was happiest feeding someone with her delicious cooking. She belonged to the Red Deer Kinettes, K40, and the Gaetz Memorial United Church Women’s group. She enjoyed her Stitch and Bitch buddies; who were very special to her, even as she declined in years. Jessie made friends easily; whether it was in the neighborhood, out at the lake, or just talking with someone in line. Jessie and Gord grew up loving the lake. It was a big part of their lives for over fifty years; and Jessie and Gordon enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining their many friends at their Gull Lake cabin. They often hosted friends and neighbors; as well as many of the Red Deer Motors staff who became close friends. Happy Hour at the Lund’s was a fun event, whether it was planned or impromptu. She was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a special friend to many; who will be missed by all that knew her. Jessie will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, and their families, Don (Kelley) and Bob (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ryan, Heather (Kyle Larrivee), Darren, Peter (Cindy), Stephen (Chelsea Orza); and great granddaughter, Talla. She will also be sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Lorna Teare of Toronto, Ontario, step sister, Donna Jean, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Daniel Lund on June 8, 2009, her parents, Harry and Alice Teare, step father, Leo Ray, a brother, Fred Teare, a sister, Gertrude Talbot, and brothers-in-law, Les Talbot and Norman Lund. The family would like to thank the special care givers that so lovingly helped Jessie over the last eight years; who without she could not have enjoyed her cabin like she did; and also thank you to the care giving staff at Revera Inglewood. A Funeral Service will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 - 50 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Jeffrey Rock officiating. If desired, in place of flowers, Memorial Donations in Jessie’s honor may be made directly to the Alberta Alzheimer’s Association at www.alzheimer.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
