Obituary for Patricia Gail "Pat" Meeres (Muter)

Patricia Gail "Pat" Meeres (Muter)
On May 24, 2017, Pat Meeres passed away quietly, surrounded by her family. Pat, the eldest daughter of Bill and Pearl Muter, along with sister Diane, moved to Red Deer where Pat attended Central School and Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. She enjoyed needlework, camping with friends and family, hiking in the mountains, and cross country skiing. When she wanted a break or a cigarette on a hike, Pat would say, “Lyle, that would make a great picture.” One time she said that, young children scampered past her on a steep trail, and Pat said, “That does it. No more smoking.” She did quit. Pat is sorely missed by her husband of fifty nine years. She met Lyle on a blind date, married in 1957, and put up with years of bad jokes. Pat joined the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and worked in a bank after high school. After the birth of son Michael and daughter Wendy, Pat worked in the Bay and in Hazel’s Camera Shop, the latter so she could afford Lyle’s picture taking hobby. Friends Donna and Gordon McKee often camped and traveled with Pat and Lyle. Favorite trips included the Maritimes, Greece, Italy, England, New Zealand, Spain, Quebec City, Ireland, China and Japan. Later, travel included cruises. Pat always looked forward to time with Diane (Ken), Michael (Marie), Wendy, and grandchildren Rachelle, Danielle, Brett, and Reid. Family appreciates the care and companionship provided by Family Services of Central Alberta, and by the doctors, nurses and medical staff of Unit 33 at Red Deer Hospital, and by Home Care. A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held on Tuesday, May 30 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Cronquist House by Bower Ponds. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Donations may be made in memory of Pat to the Adult Day Support Program of Family Services of Central Alberta. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
