The family of Stewart Johnston is saddened to announce that Stew passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015, after an extended illness. Stew enjoyed a 36 year career with AGT/Telus, successfully representing the corporation in Edmonton, Westlock, St. Albert, Lethbridge, Pincher Creek and Red Deer. In each community, Stew left a legacy of integrity, professionalism and community involvement that ranged from coaching and working with youth to volunteering and engagement in Lions Club to support community needs. He was passionate about his time spent with the Canadian Ski Patrol, playing hockey and baseball. Stew had a love for all things family oriented; especially camping and fishing. He will be fondly remembered for his calm manner, humility and generosity. For Stew, there was always something to laugh about! Stew will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Gail (McPhee), his sons; Dennis (Lynn), David (Wanda) and Norman (Marie), grandchildren; Chris, Kelsey, Garret, Max, Tiffany, Warren, Megan, and Logan, great grandchildren; Austin, Hadley and Caleb, as well as siblings Merla (Glen), Lynette (Darl), Arthur and Darryl (Deb), along with extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents David and Hazel, siblings; Wilfred Johnston, Melvin Johnston and Deanna Lunder. The family would like to acknowledge the support of all devoted healthcare professionals who cared for Stew and all the family and friends that visited him during his stays at the Ponoka and Lacombe Hospitals. A Celebration of Stew’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at the Red Deer Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Stew’s honor may be made directly to the B.C. and Alberta Guide Dog Services at www.albertaguidedog.com or www.bcguidedog.com.
