Obituary for Barry Michener

Barry Michener
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Milton Berry ‘Barry’ Michener at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the age of 68 years. Barry was born in Red Deer on June 12, 1949 to Milton and Rosie Michener. Up until the age of 7, Barry lived on the family farm in Willowdale. After that he moved to what is now the Michener Centre to attend school. He resided at Hillcrest, Woodlea and for many years after, Group Home 79. Barry was a familiar face to many. He had a remarkable memory for names, faces, and had a special gift for jigsaw puzzles. Barry’s favourite things included socializing, walking the grounds, listening to music on his iPad, organizing his collectables, or describing his next T-Shirt purchase. All outings, birthday, and holiday celebrations were highlights for Barry. He touched the lives of many, including Caregiver friends, family and all who knew him. Barry will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Rose Nichols (Michener), a brother, Mike (Laurie Canning) Michener, sisters, Debbie (Gus) Roth, Sheryl (Brian) Holmberg; and nieces and nephews, Neely, Shawn, Riess, Paige, Layne, Tyler and Amanda; as well as step nieces and nephews, Zoe, Eriq and Kassidy. Barry will also be sadly missed by his loving and caring extended family at Group Home 79, Michener Green and The Roger Nichols family. Barry was predeceased by his father, Milton Michener (1985) and stepfather, Roger Nichols. A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m with The Reverend Wayne Reid and Ruth Ann Sigurdson officiating. Following the Celebration of Life, a second Celebration will be held at the Roland Michener Recreation Centre (Theatre Room) with an Interment to follow at The Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. The family wishes to thank the ER, ICU and Unit 32 Staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the compassionate care, not only for Barry, but also for the family.
