Obituary for Arthur Waldemar Marcinkowski

Arthur Waldemar Marcinkowski
Arthur Waldemar Marcinkowski of Red Deer, Alberta died peacefully at Red Deer Regional Hospital on June 20, 2017, at the age of 93 years. He will be lovingly missed by his children Marlene (Daryl) Andre of Lacombe, Elaine (Rick) Rymek of Calgary, Lilly (Doug) Perreault of Wetaskiwin and John (Colleen) Marcinkowski of Innisfail; ten grandchildren & fifteen great grandchildren. Arthur was born on September 4, 1923 in Krzewice, Poland to Alexander and Ema (Klenke) Marcinkowski. He is a brother to Zbigniew (Joyce) Marcinkowski of Edmonton. Arthur was predeceased by his sister Jean (Herman) Tober of Westlock. Arthur lived in Poland until age 21 when he joined the Polish army. After his discharge, he moved to Canada, arriving in Halifax aboard the R.M.S. Aquitania December 20, 1947. Arthur married Elsa Martin on August 25, 1950 in Forestburg. Art and Elsie farmed together in Forestburg and later in Two Hills. They ran a butcher shop on the farm in Two Hills and then in Thorhild. Art and Elsie moved several times and finally settled in Westlock where they lived until Elsa’s passing in 2014. After suffering a stroke, Arthur moved to Innisfail to be closer to family. With declining health he moved to Michener Extendicare in Red Deer January, 2017. Arthur enjoyed fishing, camping, going to the hot springs, hunting and coffee time with friends and had a soft heart towards dogs. Art and Elsie liked to entertain and hosted many barbeques. He loved to make homemade sausage and built many smoke houses. Later in life, Art loved to take photos and print them to share with his friends and family. Most vividly we will remember Art for his love of family and his unfaltering resilience and ability to adjust to whatever challenges life presented. Arthur will be remembered always with love.
