Obituary for Patrick Anthony Fitzgerald

June 7, 1947 – Jan. 18, 2017
It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of Patrick Anthony Fitzgerald of Innisfail, with his family by his side, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the age of 69 years. Patrick was born in London, England. After leaving school, he joined the Royal Navy and became a submariner and diver. His travels in the Navy took him to many parts of the world; including Singapore and Hong Kong. Later, Patrick worked for the Automobile Association. In 1973, he moved to Alberta with his family and settled in Central Alberta; where he became a farmer; and an EMT and a Firefighter. Later, he was Fire Chief in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T. and a Fire Service Advisor in Northern Alberta. Patrick was also an amateur radio operator; and he enjoyed travelling, camping, scroll saw woodworking, and model boat building. Patrick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-eight years, Judith Fitzgerald; daughter, Jennifer of Eckville, son, Steven (Valerie) of Innisfail; and five grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew and Ava (and their mother, Lorrilyn Fitzgerald of Penhold), and Stella and Felix. He will also be sadly missed by one brother, Peter (Ann); three sisters, Geraldine (Ron), Gillian (Michael) and Anne (Kevin); as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all in England, and his devoted Border Collie, Tilly. Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Desmond and Catherine Fitzgerald and Darwin Berdahl (partner to Jennifer). A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
