The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Florence Nielsen can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence: I married into the Nielsen clan through the youngest daughter Norma Jean. I have known Florence and her family for the last thirty-three years. She has been a treasure to me from very early on and I have many fond memories.

I've been around the family long enough to remember eating the cinnamon buns of Florence's mother, Pearl. In fact, Norma and I were married on Pearl's 80th birthday.

Florence had a hobby of collecting pastors. She had a Vietnamese pastor, and a Cambodian pastor, and a Laotian, and a Chinese pastor. I was the wing-nut pastor from California and I became part of her collection along with her youngest son, Barry. In fact, I always felt that Barry and I had a special little shine with Florence because we were called into pastoral ministry.

Florence was expressly hospitable, not only welcoming strangers, aliens, and refugees into her home, but in going to places of need and brokenness to provide care. Many, besides her children, referred to her as "mother."

Florence was present in our home many times, especially after our children were born. She loved to create things and to entertain and play with her many grandchildren. Her lake cabin was a long time favorite family getaway.

Most of all I remember Florence as a someone with an open Bible. Talk of Scripture and salvation was never far from her conversation, nor were the hymns. Her life and service was always tied to Jesus as was her generosity. She has invested much of her person, her time, and her resources into our family, for which I am deeply grateful.

Subject: Re: Your Mom

Hi, Barry.
Would it be possible to have this short note from our family read at your Mom’s funeral. I’m sorry that we won’t be able to come.
Love,
Terry

Aunty Florence will forever have a special place in our family’s hearts. It was her that God used to bring us together as a couple. Over the years, both Joanie and I have regularly looked to her for a godly example and wise counsel, and along the way, everyone in our family has been the recipient of her love, practical encouragement and faithful prayers for both us and our work in Pakistan. Though my special memories of Aunty Florence stretch back to my childhood, especially precious are those of times spent together with her and our kids at her cabin on Sylvan Lake. We will miss Aunty Florence greatly but rejoice that she is with her Lord, as she longed to be.

Love

Condolence: Jake and I would like to extend our sympathies to each of you in the family at this time. Florence touched many lives by her kindness. No doubt she was welcomed with a "Well done, my child". May our God, the God of all comfort meet your every need.

Condolence: I miss my mom greatly. I enjoyed visiting her the last days in the Peter Lougheed. She had a sharp mind until the end of her life.
